How will you Race for Life?
Walk - Jog - Run
Standard Life wants to encourage as many people as possible to walk, jog or run to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. Race for Life is for everyone who has been touched by cancer; it's not about fast times and being ultra fit; it's about the shared purpose of fundraising for cancer research, so walkers, joggers or runners are all welcome.
Sport as a force for good
As headline partner of Race for Life, we’re proud to be part of a community coming together to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Earlier this year this film was produced for Standard Life by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions. The film focuses on two people, including one of our colleagues Gail Izat, Workplace Director, telling their own cancer story at a Race for Life event and is a fantastic demonstration of how sport can be a force for good.
We’re committed to caring for vulnerable customers
Responding to the needs of our customers isn’t just our duty, it’s our passion. If you find yourself struggling with your health, please get in touch as we may be able to help.
We can’t provide healthcare, but we can tell you the options you have when it comes to one of your biggest financial assets; your pension plan.
Race for Life events
If you have been inspired by the stories in the film and would like to Walk, Jog, Run or get Pretty Muddy, please consider taking part in Race for Life.
There are 150 locations across the UK. Everyone is welcome and all fundraising from the events goes towards Cancer Research UK’s lifesaving work
-
If you’re walking, dress for the weather and take a jumper or waterproof if it looks like it might rain. If you’re jogging or running, you will need to wear trainers with breathable sports gear (shorts, leggings and a t-shirt).
If you’re taking part in Pretty Muddy, you will get muddy so wear something you don’t mind getting covered in mud! (But don’t forget to bring something to get changed into if you’re driving home!)
And, of course if you want to dress up, you won’t be the only person to turn up in a pink tutu!
-
Lots of people walk Race for Life as the reason for being there is to fundraise for Cancer Research UK, it is about having fun, so if you don’t like running, feel free to walk. When you get called to your start, the organisers will group participants – runners will get called up first, then joggers and then walkers, so if you choose the right group, you should be taking part with people who want to complete the event at your pace.
-
Aim to arrive in the event village about 30 mins before your start time, that will give you enough time to go to the loo, fill up your water bottle and take part in the warm-up.
-
Cancer Research UK obviously want you to fundraise as much as possible, but if everyone raised at least £50, this would really help to help fund life-saving research.
-
Yes, there are toilets, however, there are no lockers, changing facilities or showers at the Race for Life events, so please bear this in mind and ask friends to look after your valuable belongings, clean clothes and towels.
-
Yes please! Cancer Research UK welcome supporters and it makes for a great atmosphere if you have people cheering you on, so bring along friends and family to make the day extra special.
