Active management and access
Discretionary Investment Managers can provide active management and grant access to investment opportunities that might not be available through regular fund investments.
The International Bond can be written on either a Life Assurance or Capital Redemption basis. All information on this page is relevant to both options.
How to appoint a Discretionary Investment Manager
If you want to appoint a Discretionary Investment Manager for your client, you can either:
- Fill in an application form
- Email service@slinternational.ie (we don't recommend sending any confidential details via email)
- Call us on 0345 300 4273 (lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and call charges will vary)
Enhanced Discretionary
Some Discretionary Investment Managers have signed an Enhanced Discretionary mandate with Standard Life International dac, which opens up more investment options.
As well as standard unit trusts and open-ended investment companies, Discretionary Investment Managers who have signed up for Enhanced Discretionary can invest in:
- Stocks and shares on regulated exchanges
- Exchange traded commodities
- Money market instruments from approved credit institutions
Enhanced Discretionary also spreads the diversity of the portfolio and allows Discretionary Investment Managers to invest fully in line with their management style and investment expertise.
For Enhanced Discretionary to work successfully, you or your client cannot influence the selection of investments. If you do, the bond may become highly personalised and a punitive tax charge may be due.
You can find out more about this investment option and see how to sign up in our Enhanced Discretionary guide
Discretionary Investment Manager charges
If investments are made using a Discretionary Investment Manager, we'll apply a simple stepped product charge ranging from 0.20% to 0.55% a year (depending on the value of the bond).
You can find out more about these charges in our International Bond charges and discounts guide.
